With plumage colourful enough
To illuminate your day
In awe - they make us truly happy
(But only up to today).

These creatures unique, vibrantly glow
Native to our land
Aim only to inspire our souls
Enrich, brighten and expand.

Harmless they are, in their nourishing
Our Australian history
In every way they are exquisite,
But til when? A mystery.

Well let me tell you. Please don’t dismay.
With rising flames, they are dying.
Exquisite, only up to today.
Really. I’m not lying.

Coals burning, wheels turning
Greenhouse gases always churning
A nitrous oxide dreamtime descends.
Birds’ homes lost. This is the cost.
