Anticipation suspends thick and clotted in the humid forest air
The cat steadies its haunches and pounces, claws outstretched

Muffled thump, the cat lands and traps the squirming hare in its paws
It lifts its delicate pink nose and sniffs the air – something is off
The cat jolts as heavy footsteps sound in the placid forest atmosphere
Followed by artificial sounds of screeching machinery and felled trees
The figure appears and stares at the vanishing flick of a dappled tail
The foliage is still and the shadows are still.
