The beach

The grainy sand squeezes between my toes like a clenched fist
The waves crash along the shore like a lion roaring
The water shimmers like diamonds in the sun
The sand tastes like cement and sugar
The seaweed smells like spoiled sushi
Squish, squish, squish, I hear, as the sand flattens beneath people’s feet
12,000 beaches along the coast
The water is liquid gold
I wander along the beach
As my shoes fill with billions of grains of sand
It’s amazing how far I can see
It makes me feel so free
The sand crunches between my toes: crunch, crunch, crunch
All my senses are so alive
The beach is like a healing balm
I am left feeling peaceful and calm
