The fire whips around the trees

The koalas climb higher into the leaves

‘Hop away!’ cry the wallabies

The birds squawk, flying wildly in their panic

Eucalyptus trees, burnt to a crisp

Most animals now aware of the risk

Thousands of animals killed in the blaze

The fire turns homes into a big hard maze

Flora and fauna cry over their losses

They have nothing to prevent the death and destruction

Their youth experiencing a huge roadblock or obstruction

Thousands of animals now classified as endangered

With no end in sight their confidence wavers

They hide in their homes waiting the blaze out

Mourning for the dead, they cry their eyes out

So many animals affected by the fire

Some many of them now endangered

Australia’s bush has never been any drier.

This is what happened during the deadly black summer bushfires.
