Crashing waves reverberate inside my skull, flashing reminders of that storm filled night.
My mind flicks back to the storm, the reason I’m here.
Wild winds whipping through the trees.
Owl’s homes are demolished, thrown to the ground by Mother Nature.

I seek refuge. Safety from the fallen limbs and panicked animals.
We travel to the land of the sea.
Wind. Salty air fills my lungs, I breathe in the scent of seaweed.
My feet scrape against the smooth branches of a washed-up log.

Seaweed. Dripping onto the sand, creating puddles of memories.
Birds soar high above, singing songs of the sea.
The waves tickle the toes of the beach, I shrink away as the water seeps into the sand. My feet dig into the crevices of the log, keeping me safe above the water.

A soft breeze caresses my cheek, comforting me.
Crabs. Tiny crustaceans sidestep across the sand, escaping our thundering footsteps.
Foaming bubbles floating over the deep blue ocean.
Grains of sand riding in between my toes, like busy people catching the train.

My feet dangle over the edge of the log, lightly scraping the sandy ground.
Pebbles and shells scattered over the sand, pricking my feet as I run.
Safe. Safe from the trees and wind and rain. Safe from the electrical wires and freezing people.
The beach holds me in her arms, protecting me from the terrors back home.
