The Earphones

Once I had a pair of earphones
That helped me to escape the world
They were smooth white pearls with microphones
And an end that was curled
When the times were tough
When my grandmother died
My parents asked if I was okay when I looked a little rough
“I’m fine,” I lied
Later on
When all my tears had been cried
My war with despair has finally been won
The sound of my music turned the tide
And so my earphones have served me well
Now the music always stays with me
*Fizzle* my earphones are gone but I won’t retract back into my shell
For I’m now as strong as the big blue sea
