The Gilbert’s Potoroo hops,

Searching the land with its eyes,

Watching for introduced predators,

That are causing their demise.

Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve,

Is the only place they’re found,

The staff that keep this animal safe,

Deserve applause all around.

Their taste in food is expensive,

Truffles every day,

They dig them up from under the ground,

It’s a limited food buffet.

They can be mistaken for a quokka,

With dense greyish-brownish fur,

Small ears buried in the fluff,

Legs for hopping like a blur.

Gilbert’s Potoroos are endangered,

Critically, by the way,

We still need to donate to help,

And volunteer every day!
