Blue box gumtree watches

Time is frozen here

Roots dig into the rich, damp soil

Offering ancient knowledge to me

It greets me 

And I greet it

Taller and taller it gets 

Spreading soothing shade over me

While the cockatoos’ never-ending squawk

Rings up above

Sugar gliders and kookaburras 

Comfortably nestled in its nooks                                       

Wet, musky smell like it’s just rained

Mingles with eucalyptus scents

Rough bark under my fingers

Forever seeing 

An always-there tree

It grows as I grow

Standing guard in front of 

The ever-changing creek
