The Hawkesbury River is basically alive,

The animals and plants in it grow and thrive.

The communities along it love to play,

They swim and laugh in the water all day.

Without deerubbin animals would have nowhere to live,

Which means we'll have no more fish to give.

Although we need to filter it first,

Without the river we would all thirst.

Without deerubbin we’d wouldn’t often see kookundi,

Nor would we often see burumurring or kutukalung.

The Hawkesbury River may sometimes be destructive,

But without it many would not survive.
