The Lanyard

The colours lash at my eyes as my fingers fumble over the pin
The smile of satisfaction blooms as I hear the click of a pin.
I look at the lanyard from a distance, as the pins clink against one another
A grin spreads as I wear it around my neck
I show my sister the updated version of the lanyard
I laugh as she struggles over choosing her own new pin.
I watch the pins as they prance about, each step I take
My eyes skim over them as flashes of each pin fill my mind like a field of blooming flowers.
From entering the amusement park to riding my very first roller coaster,
Each pin represents a part of my vacation at Disneyland.
I look at the characters and remember
Dreams of a child as I wish every night to meet the heroic mice,
Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
I think back to the moments of me getting off the plane which reaches Korea.
For years I felt the same temperature as I got off the same airport
However, for the first time, I stepped off into a new place, with a new feeling and a new goal
America was the first country I got to visit which had no relation to my nationality
I remember looking around the place, nervousness and excitement bubbling inside of me
The lanyard symbolises the whole journey of excitement
I will never forget the lanyard and its visible and invisible jewels both representing memories.
