The Leaf and the winds
By Marilla M
I wake to a world of blandness and white
I watch the world transform, white melting to reveal luscious greens
My people rejoice, we shake and wave from our branches in celebration
The wind comes by every day, dancing as he rushes past
He chooses me on a glistening day, stealing me away to adventure
He whistles a gentle melody as we dance together, escaping my cities walls
We exit my city, my people shaking us goodbye from their branches
This new world is divine
Wind swirls us through towns of flowers, they wave as we pass
The blue birds sing, the round rabbits dance, the daring deer’s feast,
I feel peace, floating delicately with wind
Something cold touches my sides, something scary, something dangerous…
A new wind snatches me away, tearing me from my friend
New wind is cold, and cruel, and cynical
He warns the land with a mighty roar, steering us to a deserted land
New wind forces me to a strange creature, its body stiff and unmoving
We rise to its head, its gaping mouth breathing dark, crisp breaths onto me,
New wind howls as he sacrifices me to the beast
I burn to a world of blandness and black
