The numbat dug quickly into the damp, dirty and moist soil

under a leafless bush like a drill.

The numbat’s ears twitched like ears of a fox

quick as an ant running across the country, warm, sunny and homey.

The moist soil splattered on the sighting area

and on my rosy, pink and chubby cheeks.

Everyone there giggled uncontrollably at me

but all I cared about was the beautiful, cute and pretty numbat.

Face to face we stared.

The numbat looked at me cautiously,

behind it was the painted sky

with the moon sucking the sun into the horizon.

It was an enchanting sight for the tourists, and even me!

The endangered numbat looked like a brave wolf,

scouting the country for a long time in hope for a home as it walked

like a queen into the neatly dug den under the leafless, small and dead bush.

As we waved goodbye, everyone knew that there will be a good future

for this little numbat because we all care for it

and hope it won’t come to extinction.
