The sun beats down on the red desert,

The soil as vermilion as cinnabar powder

And seasons drier than firewood.

Not a single human in sight

But the seemingly devoid desert is teeming with life.

The scent of plants fills the air.

Reeds, Acacia and gum trees to name a few.

The animals come as well.

Dingoes killing whatever they can eat,

Emus drumming and booming and grunting

Like there’s no tomorrow.

Koalas climbing Eucalyptus trees before their daily nap,

Wombats digging and foraging and sleeping.

The hissing and clicking and growling of kangaroos

As beautiful brown fur glistens and shines in the sunlight.

In the harsh heat of the sun

You might see a mess,

But they see a home.
