The Painting

There she lay in the corner,
The dust as thick as cream.
The old gold frame lies in silence,
The painting as old as time.
I was young when I first saw it.
The oval is a warm green,
The seats are a cherry red.
My pop brought it many years ago,
He always said that one day she’ll be mine.
I thought that day would never come,
But sadly it came too soon.
Looking at the picture it makes me feel,
Sometimes when I’m sad, I look at it and I feel that he’s still with me,
The picture is of Adelaide oval in 1996,
The people in the stands look so very happy.
It was painted by Pro Hart.
Isn’t she a beauty?
She’s signed by the Don.
Man can offer money but this boy would never sell,
There she lay in the corner.
