the past is gone

Ancient monolith, centuries old.
just an inconvenience to clear away,
just a memory forever lost.
the past is gone.
Eucalyptus, sacrosanct.
Leaves, bark drier than drought, older than time.
Knocked away - for no reason,
such an act - simply treason.
Centuries old, stories untold,
through fire and drought and flood and wind.
The ancient giant, crumbling within.
the past is gone.
But should tomorrow also?
An urge, the spark of a bushfire,
cease the course of death and destruction.
resist. rethink. replant.
replant.
the past is gone.
but not tomorrow.
