The Protector

From the land of trees so quiet and calm
Comes a block of wood, for all different arms
Knocking and shining it till it’s set
And when it’s ready it will be time for the nets
It’s not just a block of wood
Training and training until you get it perfect
When the bowlers are running to get you out
The bat is there to protect
Blocking the ball from the stumps
Keeping you from out
It’s not just a block of wood
Hitting the ball in the middle to score
Gripping on tight until the time is right
Fours, Sixes all get applause
Scoring and scoring for the winning runs
Everybody clapping until the jobs done
It’s not just a block of wood
Not wanting the moment to end
Creating memories that cannot be made dead
It’s not just a block of wood
It’s a protector
