The Rainforest

The morning sun breaks holes in the trees,
Dew falls off the damp leaves.
Crickets, birds and monkeys make silence impossible,
The tall old trees with thick, strong trunks.
Leafy vines tangle them, covering the bark,
Life is thriving everywhere you look;
Jaguars roam,
Monkeys play,
Caimans hiss,
Snakes slither,
This is the rainforest.
Lost cities of stone and artefacts stay,
The forest's secret kept from humanity.
Beautiful artistic faces carved in stone, stare unblinking.
Withered old stone,
Houses the hundreds of thousands of creatures within.
Old decrepit traps no longer work, but wait
Snakes hiss at anything they have an excuse to
Old, ancient villages, still thriving.
This is the rainforest.
