The regent honeyeater, living up to its name

But now so endangered, what a shame!

Yet it wasn’t always this way, you must see

For this majestic bird used to be

As common as could be!

Now it’s chest, scalloped yellow on black

Is a sighting that is extremely lacked!

As the trees of their homes slowly disappear

The threat of them losing their food sources leers

And after that is extinction, there needs no seer.

Right now of these endangered birds there are so few

A male bird cannot even find a female to woo!

By the lucky off-chance, he does find one

His little ones look into the world with no-one

To teach them their soft bell-like song!
