The Sacred Place

As I climb slowly up the tree
And the sun says good morning to me
The branches are rough as sand paper
I feel free while the wind blows against my neck
I see the kangaroos slowly hopping into the distance
Of the native bush with the damp foot prints followed behind them
With the kookaburras laughing in the bush
I know my way around here but these trees have been here for a million years
It smells like fresh mowed grass
The gumtree leaves blew up and up into the sky
Revealing the destruction us humans have made
As the bush stands up tall and kisses the wind goodbye as it
Gets chopped down with crumbling and rustling goes
The kangaroos rush to safety
Look what we are doing, put a stop this
The bush is as old as an ancient pyramid that’s longer than us
The gumtree is a whole new world, it's home to these animals not us
so leave them alone.
