Through the water the whale slips in and out,

Smoothly gliding and swimming about.

Graceful and splendid, a dancing ballerina,

The ocean and blue his own arena.

He swims slow and proud,

The cooing of his song, oh so loud.

There he swims, sovereign of the sea,

Swimming along so alive and free.

Here comes a boat full of fishing gear,

And through the whale is a wave of fear,

The whale thrashes in pursuit,

And yet the boat hooks its loot.

The mass of whale is reeled up,

Heaved onto the boat, a deck of grub,

The fisherman boast, gloat and cry,

What a big catch, what a prize.

But you see this isn’t fair,

Whale numbers are in despair,

So now we must take a stand,

As their future is in our hands.
