The Winter Night

I hear the wind,
Which blows away
All my thoughts and cries.
I lean and hug a redwood trunk,
Who whispers, “stay with me”
I answer, "dear tree, I’ll do
Anything you wish."
Every day I come and sit,
Read and even sing him songs.
I hear him laughing at my jokes,
Talk and smile quietly,
A friendly wombat comes to me, I
Feed him corn and name him Fred.
Each day I bring snacks for me
And Fred, some comics for the tree.
Together we make good company.
Each day I come and play with them,
My new best friends in nature
From now until forever!
