‘Third in line’

Shaft of light catches
glistening metal
showering the wall like shattered ice crystals.
Silently the medals hang:
twenty nine different stories.
But one stands out:
a dull face
with tattered ribbon.
It was never the best
Bronze, not gold,
but still first.
First ever placed around my six year old neck.
First story.
First in line.
