Timeless Country
By Daniel Y
Lush green country,
Dense thick undergrowth,
In a white gum tree,
A great big sloth,
After the rains,
Birds dance.
On the plains,
Kangaroos prance.
Away from the mainland,
In a canopy deep below.
Giant stems sway,
To the rhythm of the waves,
Leading shoals astray,
In the unfathomed depths.
When the moon rises
Upon a distant shore,
The devil cackles,
Seen no more.
As if immune to the chapel.
