Underneath the Young gum
I have grown up.
I’ve spent days, nights, years, months,
Learning, eating, playing, living.
Underneath the wind like water,
beside the wood like brick.
Through all weather,
Wind, rain, shine, we have grown together.
Connection, Separation.
Loneliness, belonging.
Together, forever,
Is me and my Gum Tree.
Now when I grow old, old like all life
When I pass on all my knowledge,
Just like a torch alight,
Although my flesh and bones may leave this place,
I will always be underneath my Old Gum.
