Waiting For The Rain

Eyes soft as sand, yet stern as stone
The swish of the tail, sweeping sand aside
You hold secrets deeper than the Earth itself
Scattering over bone-dry deserts,
Looming forests,
Waiting for the rain
Pointed ears twitching, terrified in the shadow of the feline
Wind rushing through dusty fur,
The rain will uncover the past
In the shadows for years to come,
You will remain,
Waiting for the rain
Threats too enlarged to overthrow,
Shadows reaching down below,
The Dusky Hopping Mice remain,
Waiting for the rain
