War of the Water

The silver sun pierces the waters skin
As it flows through the mighty gorge
While peaceful, it hides a lifetime of pain
Where it longs for us to see more
Flowing through the rocks the water cries out
As it fights against the earth's threats
Trees with strength to touch the skies
Reach down, cry: “Lest we forget.”
The water sighs as it reflects on its past
Of supporting the earth to thrive
Saving people it meets in its travels
Its purpose: to keep us alive
It’s been a place for war and conflict
Now an endangered source of life
Breaking itself for our selfish needs
Ruined by worldly strife
A battle that’s lasted throughout all time
War started by human nature
Now the water slows down, tired from battle
Preparing for its surrender
