What do we lose when a loved one goes?

Difficult to say, both in poetry and prose.

Are they simply a man, woman or child,

Or a certificate of death that is stamped, sealed, then filed?

No, my dear friends,

They are much more than this;

They’re the sum of a life

That has now reached its bliss.

And so, my dear souls,

I will not say do not cry,

For their loss is not small,

And clouds now grow in the sky.

But with clouds comes the rain,

And this you all know,

That with rain comes new life

To flourish and grow.

So, what do we lose when a loved one goes?

Much more than a person with bright eyes or a long nose.

But what the world gains, that comes down in storms.

And for this, my dear friends, your hearts should be warmed.
