What the eye forgot

From the iris in our eye,
To the soil beneath our feet.
Have you ever paused to see,
What dreams beneath the forest?
It breathes without witness.
Moss awaits like old memory.
The root speaks in tongues
That we have now long forgot.
A single raindrop cradles the footsteps of a hundred journeys;
Yet we chase the flood it makes not the path it remembers.
We name stars eons away,
But not the worms that strive beneath our feet together everyday.
We forget to kneel to the roots,
How to honour what’s hidden beneath,
How to see beyond just sight
And sometimes when the world goes quiet;
The eye softens, the roots below whisper.
“You were never separate from me, you only ignore me.
You were only too loud to listen."
