Why Don't You Listen?

I close my eyes and open my mouth,
The words slip between my lips.
Then they
Unravel.
Twirl into the air unwinding… a ribbon.
Then they soar out of harm's way.
They crawl into his suit pockets,
Jump into his slicked hair.
They clamber in his computer bag,
Then on to his phone screen.
They creep,
They sneak.
They frolic about,
But they can’t seem to change the words that come out of his mouth.
They say we’re just little kids
Well, yes. But our thoughts still count.
No-one is too small to make a difference.
I squeeze my eyes shut,
Roll my hands into fists.
I open my mouth the recited speech
Rolls…
Gallops and dances into the sky.
They hide inside his wallet ,
But end up at the back of his inbox.
They crawl,
Creep…
But still the nuclear investigation goes on…
Why don't you listen?
You declare that
“Climate change is a very real and serious issue”
The heat of your lies is melting the icebergs.
Don't waste your precious breath, dear Prime Minister.
You say you're ‘all ears’
When we share our ideas for solutions
About this “very real and serious issue”…
But yet our eyes
Don't seem to see
The wonderful changes that
Should be blooming before us.
Like the reassuring false statements you make.
Why don't you listen?
You are wasting the Earth's
Precious oxygen
And adding carbon dioxide instead.
You are selfish, like the kid who wants more and more and more
Ice-cream.
With a fifth of the world’s lungs on fire,
You’re not doing any good.
Why don't you listen, dear Prime Minister?
