Winter arrives like an ancient aunt
Withered, wrinkly and worn
She wears us down with her icy breath
And covers us in darkness

Just one jumper’s not enough
Slowly freezing, this season’s tough
Make hot milo, tin is emptied
Run to Woolies to pick up some more
But it’s a public holiday and they’ve closed the store!

Winter settles in and stays
with its long nights and short days
Gripping on and holding tight
She won’t leave without a fight

Winter fades as sun seeps in
Not long now, till fun begins
Forgotten quickly, winter leaves
Farewell winter, welcome trees.
