Woolemi Pine Poem

The green-covered sky.
A blanket of life.
Reaching up to grasp the sunlight.
Down beneath me a pattern of roots,
All connected to the great big green shoots.
Growing ever bigger, waiting for time to pass.
Extending their arms to welcome the light.
I belong here, looking up at their great might.
Becoming so rare.
So sacred and beautiful,
Trying to survive the time.
Trying to keep the species alive.
Spreading itself through the air.
Using the wind.
Looking up at the sky,
In one great stare.
