What are we if not animals of love? Yet often the best love comes squiffy, skew-whiff, inside out, and back to front. After all, we’re all just little pieces of puzzle trying to find a fit before we lose our shape.
Through a close reading of contemporary poems, playful writing prompts, and discussion, we’ll experiment with notions of love gone wonky – all that’s soppy and sentimental, sure, but we'll also explore the idea that grief could be deemed the last reverberation of loving someone.
Suffice to say, this workshop might also be considered an introduction to some of Scotland's finest word slingers.
The workshop is open to writers at all stages – beginners and first timers are absolutely welcome in. Although all the prompts are poems, writers are welcome to respond with both poetry and poetic prose / follow the story, the voice, your gut, the glister.
Expect to leave with new work, part-formed things, lit fuses, and tender curiosity.
Michael Pedersen is a prize-winning Scottish author (Cat Prince & Other Poems, Boy Friends, Muckle Flugga and and Edinburgh’s Makar (Poet Laureate).
