Eligibility

You must be a former Red Room Poetry commissioned poet to apply for the Red Room Poetry Fellowship.

The 2023 Fellow will receive

  • $5000 poetic stipend “no strings”
  • $1000 commission to create a suite of poems inspired by an existing Red Room Poetry project
  • A two-week residency at Bundanon (Monday 24 July – Sunday 6 August 2023)
  • Fee for delivery of workshops while in residence at Bundanon
  • Travel assistance
  • Opportunity to film or present a public address during the year-long Fellowship

Terms and Conditions

  1. Applications are open exclusively to poets previously commissioned by Red Room Poetry. Poets must show the project(s) and/or poem(s) for which they were commissioned.
  2. Entries must address entire criteria in the application form (see Selection Criteria below).
  3. Multiple entries are not permitted.
  4. Poems submitted must be original works written by an individual author.
  5. Poems submitted must not infringe upon anyone’s copyright.
  6. Poems that are deemed to be works of plagiarism will be disqualified.
  7. Applications previously entered in past Red Room Poetry Fellowships may not be re-entered.
  8. Visual poems must be accompanied by a 300-word exegesis.
  9. Entries open 9am, Thursday 15 December 2022 (AEST)
  10. Entries close 5pm, Wednesday 22 February 2023 (AEST)
  11. Shortlisted poets will be offered a commission opportunity, to be published on Red Room's digital channels.
  12. Shortlisted poets may be required to take part in events and media activities.
  13. Feedback for unsuccessful entries will not be provided.
  14. Copyright of all poem(s) remains with the poet.

Selection criteria 

  1. Show potential for this grant to benefit your creative development and advance a previous poetic project or consequent work
  2. Provide a proposal detailing how your commissioned works will respond to a Red Room project
  3. Availability to attend a two-week residency at Bundanon Trust in 2023 (Monday 24 July - Sunday 6 August, 2023)
  4. Willingness and experience to deliver 3 poetic workshops
  5. Preparedness to record, publish and speak publicly about your poetry and creative process
