Tall eucalyptus trees engulf you in nature.

The morning sun shines down on you.

The smell of eucalyptus softens your body.

Focus your eyes… just a little more… there, right there.

On top of the fallen eucalyptus tree a little creature scampers,

its tail wisps behind it as it nimbly moves, effortlessly across the log.

The creature turns its head to look at you.

A numbat! White lines paint its back.

Big, black eyes stare at you, dark as charcoal.

You reach into your pocket, feeling for your camera,

you pull it out silently. You raise your camera up slowly

the numbat wasn’t there!

You lower your camera,

the numbat wasn’t anywhere!

You search your mind for the image of the numbat you thought you saw,

but it wasn’t there. You had been so caught up in keeping that moment...

that you missed it…
