A Stone and a String

Traded and gifted through generations grand
A profound connection to my culture and land
An imperishable treasure from his birthplace
An aspect of my culture I strive to embrace
A prized possession gifted from my father
As the joyful thoughts piled one after another
A greenstone engraved with care
And the cord absent of a tear
A deep green in colour, the memories eternal
A light from within and not so external
Invoking pleasant memories from the past
An endless sensation I’d wish to last
Made by hand, in a form of a gift
When handed the stone, my heart is uplift
A heart felt present, intended to be sincere
A priceless object to make the distance between us disappear
A gift so thoughtfully chosen
The cold space in my heart, officially unfrozen
A feeling I’m unable to find else where
A prosperous joy, like I’m walking on air
