A Visit to Yabbie Island - By Zoe O’Connell

I hear the Gang-gang cockatoos chatting with one another
I hear the wind in the trees
I hear people running walking and talking
With each other running with the breeze

I decide to go to Yabbie Island
I grab my paddle board
Yell back to my mum
I’ll see you after 1!

I run down to the little beach
And straight into the water
Brown river water bashes into me
But I never give up paddling

I head onto the island
And see my hermit crab friends
Running in great armies
Charging back to where they came from

As I walk along the hot sand
I feel a pinch under my feet
I feel relieved to be back on Yabbie Island
With my pinchy mates
