A Whale's Last Dive

It starts with a tingle in the stomach
Ragged breath and rough skin
The waves sweep mourning tides
A burning yearning
For one last dive
The water lurches making way
As great flippers push through the water
One last dive
Until the afterlife
The whale breaks through the sea
And rushing waves greet thee
One last dive
Before the whale's demise
The whale's carcass is devoured by sharks
Shaken by fish
Dissolved by plankton
Another ecosystem risen from a death
A fuel for the ocean
From one last dive
