Aeons

When flaming viscid magma cracked the crust
It forged with blasts the basalt mountain range.
As ages did decay the peaks to dust
Impassive stars above surveyed the change.
A fragile seedling sought the deep red soil
The rootlings desperately craving care
Beneath a tow’ring mount that tempests foil
To grow aloft the mighty boughs so fair.
The stately gum gives shelter from the storm
As lightning lashes clouds not far away.
Inside a hollow node, secure and warm,
Rosella chicks avoid the bad melee.
This moment took but aeons to prepare
Majestic, marvellous, a miracle.
Ev`ry instant so special yet not rare,
But dares the poet lift to lyrical!
The chicks and stars to each its place to shine,
A continuity of space and time.
