All that's left

All that’s left is the unbearable taste of air
Weighing us down and choking us. Jerking on our insides
As we watch our once lively home crumble into nothingness
I suppose it’s the earth’s wrath we failed to comfort
The screams of pain we chose to ignore,
Despite knowing the consequences
Maybe the idea of it
The idea of the end seemed too distant for us to care
Because it’s the children of our children
Who would have to survive this monstrous mess we created
Or maybe we just gave up at some point
And decided that there was no hope
As the scars we left here can never truly fade
And everything we had is slowly withering away
The way we filled our night sky with light which got rid of our stars
Even if there's no hope, this is the only place we know of where we can
Watch the sunset, see the flowers grow, hike, swim,
Go on late night walks and admire the new years fireworks
So can we at least leave something here, even if it’s only little,
Let’s leave something for our spirits to savour
