An Ode to the Forest

Hello old friend, its been a while -
a while since I’ve seen your sweet, sincere smile.
A while since I've heard your
tranquil, tentative talk,
a while since I've felt your
warmth while I walk.
And yet, old friend, it seems no time has past,
no time has past since I saw you last.
Your ochre forest floor ablaze like fire,
the trunks of your trees, grow ever higher.
A sensual smell of honey and musk,
a calming constant from dawn to dusk.
A natural protector for all the world,
your branches hold swings for every boy and girl.
You give us life, breathe into everyone's souls,
a gift I will cherish until I grow old.
One final word to you my dear friend,
although my ode to you will never truly end.
Grand forest, your bright crimson flowers abloom,
I will visit you. I will protect you. I will come back soon.
