Aspergers Poem

Aspergers is a disorder
No, not asparagus
It’s where you focus on only a few things
It can be about cakes or rings
It’s basically a branch of autism
Many famous people have it
But not many people have the wisdom
About it
Loud noises are much louder
Bright lights are much brighter
Senses are heightened
They get very frightened
Many don’t get treatment
They aren’t understood
And it’s hard to explain
Consulting Wikipedia isn’t enough
Their lives are very rough
They like the quiet and the organised
They are amazing at their passions
But not at other subjects
They’re three years behind
Emotionally-wise
Take me for example, year 10 in Literacy
But less than 10 emotionally
They try so hard
But they’re still not truly understood
It’s incredibly hard for them to relate
But sometimes they get lots of hate
And teasing and bullying
Some like indoor
Some like outdoor
Some like the floor
Some like the door
Some days are long and harsh
Some days it feels like you’re walking through a marsh
They’re like most of the world
Just different
And that’s good
They’re not bad
Just different
