The Australian painted snipe, with metallic green back and wings,

Its nest lies on the ground, amongst tall vegetation things,

Grasses, tussocks, reeds and more,

A wading bird along the shore

Mainly seen at dawn and dusk, quietly under the cover of grass.

The Australian painted snipe we call, with the numbers lost we cry,

To live in peace is all they ask, is it really too much for us to try?
