I swim through the deep dark water.
What will happen when I'm gone?

I glide to the surface like a flash of silver in the salty sea.
My silky skin shimmers like a shell shining on the beach.

Stare into my eyes and you will see a deep dark pool of black and blue.

My tail is a glittering rudder, pushing me through the water.
My whiskers are strands of grey string that help me sense exactly where my food is.

My species is disappearing, one day I might die out for good.
When I'm gone will you remember me?

Australian Sea Lion.
