banging pots and pans

My family is one of giving,
Giving too much for the times of not enough,
Times before the war that brought them to Australia.
‘A LAND OF OPPORTUNITIES”
Where a bakery was opened to share the skills my babcia had-
Long, long hours, from first light ‘til last.
Kneading dough, making pastry and banging pots and pans.
Making just enough to make ends meet
So the life of my nana and mother could be complete.
“eat more, eat more”
The pots and pans were handed down.
They sit in my cupboard now-
So many shapes and sizes-
But every time my friends come ‘round
I hear the sound of banging pots and pans,
“eat more, eat more”
And it reminds me how lucky I am
To live with too much, with everything I’ve got,
Because of the giving and strength of my Babcia who did not.
