Beach Day

The sun was scorching,
The sand was as hot as the Gobi Desert and the water as cold as the North Pole.
The sand felt like hot sandpaper with sharp, hard rocks and shells, golden,
as a pure gold bar straight from the mould.
Lots of people ran to the frozen water like a stampede.
The water got warm at quarter to 12,
It felt like the whole city was there.
Then at 2, everyone left.
It felt like it was just me.
Just me and the sea.
