Before It's Too Late

The sunset guiding me,
the light flooding my body with a warmth
like the memories deep within.
Adventures to be had,
not to be cut short.
Peaceful, quiet, cockatoos break the stillness of the night,
but my thoughts still go on.
You never truly realise how much something means to you
until you come close to losing it.
The air so clean, I can finally breathe -
but it won’t be long before pollution comes
and spreads its blanket of fog here as well.
If only we had cared all along,
not just near the end,
things could be different…
But it’s not the time to drown in regret,
it’s time to take action, before it’s too late.
The water ripples, slowly, steadily.
It is time to reflect on our actions
as its gleaming surface reflects what is really here,
what has always been here,
what should always be here,
and what we should have always seen.
