In a land of sweeping plains, where bushland came to be.
Fire spread before our eyes until it reached the sea.
Creatures in every corner, all just came to see.
Saw the Big Ol’ Flames and all started to flee.

Burnt corpses of sorrow, and scared, glistening eyes.
Fire still rampaged on and started horrid cries.
A dingo is worried her beloved pups may die.
How do we get out of here, we really must try!

Within the bushlands, the koalas could hardly think.
Until a friendly passerby gave them a nice big drink.
And with realisation, the koala’s heart started to sink.
The smoke was still so heavy that they couldn’t even blink.

A tree full of laughing kookaburras and friendly cockatoos,
Were suddenly shaken by flames in their habitat too.
Leaping away from flames went the wise old kangaroo,
All the animals could not help but feel quite blue.

But alas, one day the air started to clear.
The Big Ol’ Flames are suddenly no longer near.
The bushland creatures were no longer in fear,
But still need to be prepared for what might come next year.
