The trees towered, like city buildings
Casting long shadows
Over the long hiking path
The morning air burning my cheeks

My heartbeat pounded out of my chest
Up the steep hill
The light chirping of crickets
Echoed through the bush land

I saw a koala resting against a tree branch,
Munching away at its leaves
The canopy shaded the sweltering sun
Yet, sunlight peeked through, glistening on my face

The silence put me at ease
My mind well-rested
I felt nothing holding me back
The thought of ‘freedom’ ventured through me
