Bushfire

Smoke swirled in the air, black filling the sky
Flames lick and climb up trees crumbling with ash.
Animals run, watching their hurting home, afraid to die
Cars speed on roads, while people watch news flash.
The monster of flame feeds on the forest,
All plants blackening with its touch,
As it flickers through smoke, an uninvited guest
Tearing its way through the forest, burning leaves with its brush.
The thick, black smoke clears out,
And in its place lies a land, torn.
A forest barren, without a single sprout,
Like a bird without wings, unable to soar.
Water splashes, droplets mixing with grey ash
Droplets rolling down skeletons of a forest,
Grey clouds pour with heavy rain,
Water creeping through cracks into the soil
Colour rises above the black,
Green leaves standing out among ash,
Animals peeking out from each crack,
As the sun and sky shine out from the clouds.
