Ceremonial Time

The golden sphere fades into the darkness,
Every strip of colour dissolving into the night sky.
Luminous stars shimmer within the atmosphere.
A pearl in the black sea reflects all our memories.
Flying foxes glide through the air,
In search for the nutritious Miwa Gawaian.
Covered in scrumptious nectar,
The D’harawal begin to celebrate with pride.
An ocean of scarlet-red surrounds me,
As I venture through the woods.
Flowers of the Ngoonungi season blossom,
Adding a splash of lurid colour to the dull landscape.
The canvas blasts with hues of lavender and coral.
A cool zephyr soon fades away into the warm air.
The scorching heat radiating from the blazing fireball,
Creating a balmy ambiance as the Parra’dowee season awaits.
Cries of joy diminish into the dark,
As everything begins to calm down.
The sound of peace and quiet.
It is ceremonial time.
